Viral video shows UP cops hitting protest accused; Police brutality video captioned “Return Gift”

Lucknow: Shalabh Mani Tripathi, BJP MLA from Deoria in Uttar Pradesh has shared a video on Twitter, which is in discussion all over the country these days. In this video, the police is seen standing on the line and beating some youths with sticks. BJP MLA has written in the caption of this video – “Return Gift” to the rebels!!

MLA Shalabh Mani Tripathi is a former journalist and has been the media advisor to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In his tweet, he did not tell where the video is from and who is the person who got beaten up. But it is believed that in 9 cities of UP, the police are beating the accused of violence after the controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad.

Since this video went viral, questions are being raised on the UP Police and human rights are being called for. People have now started demanding action against the policemen who beat them up.

Reports say that the video was shot two days ago at a police station in Saharanpur, where protests and clashes broke out after Friday prayers over controversial remarks against Prophet Muhammad by two former BJP spokespersons.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that such incidents will hurt people’s faith in the justice system. The Samajwadi Party chief said, “Questions should be raised about such police stations… UP ranks number one in custodial deaths. It is leading in human rights violations and exploitation of Dalits.”

The Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested over 300 people from different districts of the state in connection with Friday’s protests and violence. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has warned of “stern” action against those trying to vitiate the atmosphere.
Police officials in Saharanpur and Prayagraj said that action would be taken against those arrested under the stringent National Security Act (NSA). In a tweet in Hindi, Mrutyunjay Kumar, media advisor to the chief minister, said “remembering the anarchists, every Friday is followed by Saturday” and posted a picture of a bulldozer demolishing a building.
