Vivek Agnihotri sends legal notice to CM Banerjee for ‘defamatory statement’ against his film

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing controversy over ‘The Kerala Story’, a new case has started. Vivek Agnihotri, director of ‘The Kashmir Files’, has sent a legal notice to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The filmmaker has accused Mamta of defaming him and his film ‘The Kashmir Files’. The notice has been sent on behalf of producers Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi and Vivek. Vivek has also shared its copy on social media.

He wrote in his tweet- “I, along with Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi, have sent a legal notice to the Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee.” They have made false and defamatory statements with an intention to defame us and our films ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Delhi Files’.

Talking to media, Vivek said about this – I was silent for a long time. Any chief minister or big journalist used to call it propaganda. Now I thought, enough is enough. Whoever says today that this is propaganda, should come and prove that which frame, which shot, which fact is wrong, otherwise we will take strict legal action against them.

Vivek further said that yesterday Mamta Banerjee slandered my film The Kashmir Files and the upcoming film, which is based on the massacre in Bengal. He said that BJP sponsors and funds me to make Kashmir files and next film.

Vivek says that this is very derogatory and a sheer lie and baseless thing affecting my livelihood, which has been spoken by Mamta ji to please her vote bank under a politics. In the notice, Mamta Banerjee has been asked what is the basis of what she has said.

The dispute between Vivek and Mamta started on Monday. In order to get The Kerala Story banned in the state, Mamta also spoke ill of The Kashmir Files. Vivek shared this video and wrote- I think Mamta Didi is talking about me in this video. Yes, I went to Bengal to interview the victims of the Direct Action Day massacre.

‘The Kashmir Files’ was released in 2022 and was a huge success at the box office. The film took an opening of just 3.50 crores, but did a lifetime collection of more than 250 crores. Big films released before ‘The Kashmir Files’ were also flops.
