Allrounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the Zimbabwe tour due to shoulder injury. Uncapped Shahbaz Ahmed replaced him.
Harare: India has been gearing up to play 3 ODIs against Zimbabwe on August 18, 20 and 22 at the Harare Sports Club.
Before the commencement of the series, India suffered a blow. Allrounder Washington Sundar got his shoulder injured while playing a county game in England. The nature of the injury was serious, which ruled him out of the Zimbabwe tour.
Uncapped all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed has been included in the Indian squad to replace him on Sunday for the three-match One-Day International series.
Shahbaz will have the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities against a relatively easy opponent.
While fielding for Lancashire against Worcestershire in a Royal London One-Day Cup match in Manchester, Washington received an injury to his left shoulder. The Indian all-rounder immediately left the ground after getting first aid on the field.
Washington has not been part of the men in blue since the ODI series against the West Indies in February 2022. He was not considered after suffering a hand injury during his stint with SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022.
Royal Challengers Bangalore allrounder Shahbaz has accumulated 219 runs in 16 matches for RCB and grabbed four wickets during the 2022 Indian Premier League.
India is favourite to whitewash the hosts under the captaincy of KL Rail. The morale of the team is upbeat after outstanding performances against England and the West Indies in their backyard.
