CHENNAI: 59-year-old veteran car racer K.E. Kumar has passed away. In the footage from the live stream of the event on YouTube, it can be seen that during the racing event, the car skidded off the track, and collided with another car while flipping.
It can be seen in the video of the accident that Kumar’s car, which was running at a high speed, skidded off the track after touching the front of another car coming from his left, and then collided with the trees on the side and overturned. Due to the collision, many parts of the car can be seen falling apart. The race was stopped soon after.
According to information, KE Kumar was a member of the Madras Motors Sports Club. During the race, Kumar’s car lost its balance and collided with the car going next to it. Due to this, Kumar’s car went out of control and went off the track. The car overturned after hitting the fencing at high speed. After this, the race was immediately stopped by showing the red flag.

From the wreckage of the car, K.E. Kumar was immediately extricated and after preliminary medical examination was done on the track itself, he was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Event chairman Vicky Chandhok said, “This is most unfortunate… Kumar was a seasoned racer… I knew him for many decades as a friend and competitor… MMSC and the entire racing fraternity mourn his demise and extends its heartfelt condolences to his family.”
Police have started investigation by registering a case of death due to negligence. FMSCI, the national governing body for car racing, and organizer MMSC have also launched an investigation.
