The ancestral house of former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has been attacked. The attackers set the house on fire and broke the windows of the car. It is alleged that the attack was carried out by CPM workers.
Agartala: Unidentified people attacked priests outside the ancestral house of former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb late on Tuesday night. The incident took place when a group of priests reached Deb’s residence at Rajnagar in Jamjuri area of Udaipur. The priest had come on Wednesday to perform the yagya at the annual Shradh ceremony of Deb’s father.
According to reports, the assailants attacked the priests and vandalized their vehicles. The people around and the local people rescued the priests, after which the attackers fled.
Videos of the incident show flames engulfing the house and nearby shops, as well as the vandalization of cars and other vehicles. Local residents and bystanders rushed to the aid of the priests and a protest ensued, with some protesters vandalizing shops believed to be connected to the attackers.

Jitendra Kaushik, whose vehicle was damaged in the attack, said, “I had come to visit Maa Tripura Sundari temple. I had come here on the instructions of my Gurudev ji to see the preparations for the yagya to be held on Wednesday. Suddenly a crowd came And they attacked me and vandalized my vehicle.
According to sources, local people started protesting over the incident. Meanwhile, the protesters vandalized the shops of the attackers, following which heavy police force was deployed. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nirupam Debbarma and Additional Superintendent of Police Debanjana Roy reached the spot to control the situation.
Biplab Kumar Deb is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha. In his place, Manik Saha has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Tripura on 15 May 2022. Deb will continue to be a member of the Rajya Sabha till April 2028.
