New Delhi: India continued their dominance in the bilateral series by thrashing New Zealand by 168 runs in the final and decider of the three-match T20I series. After losing the first match of the series, Team India came back strongly and won the next two matches to win the series 2-1. The match was always in India’s control with Shubman Gill scoring his maiden century in the shortest format of the sport and skipper Hardik Pandya taking four wickets to bundle the Kiwis out for just 66.

India registered the biggest win in terms of runs in this match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After winning the series 2-1, Team India captain Hardik Pandya handed over the trophy to the young and new player of the team, Prithvi Shaw, although he did not get a chance to play a single match in the series.

In a video posted by the BCCI on Twitter, Shaw was visibly surprised to hold the trophy but he went on to celebrate the victory with the rest of the team as they posed for the official photographs.

“Prithvi Shaw will have to wait for his opportunity as Shubman Gill has done very well and was already part of the T20 team,” Pandya said in the pre-series press conference in Ranchi.

Despite a string of promising performances in domestics, Shaw has not been able to break into India’s playing XI. Meanwhile, former selector Saba Karim stated that being with the team will help build Shaw’s discipline.

“It’s good that you have brought back Prithvi Shaw into the system. If he stays with the team then it will build discipline inside him. You can monitor or guide him. Rahul Dravid is there. It’s not necessary to play him. I accept that he has talent and ability,” sources said.
