Kochi: Smoke engulfed some parts of Kerala’s industrial capital Kochi in the early hours of Saturday. Two days ago, a huge fire broke out in the Brahmapuram waste treatment plant, which has not been extinguished yet. This information was given by official sources. After the air quality deteriorated in the coastal city, the Kochi Corporation officials decided to seek the help of the Indian Navy to douse the fire. A defense spokesperson said in a tweet that the Navy is committed to providing all possible help to bring the situation under control.

Meanwhile, the Ernakulam district administration said that the plastic waste fire would be brought under control soon. Ernakulam District Magistrate Dr. Renu Raj said that if the civil administration fails to manage the situation today, the help of the Air Force will be taken to douse the fire.
Officials said that the district administration has discussed with the Air Force in this regard through the State Disaster Management Authority.
Kochi resident Ranjit Tampi said that the toxic smoke is affecting the health of the people living in and around the city.
The District Collector said in a video message that efforts are on to douse the fire and added that there is no need to panic.
On Thursday, a fire broke out in the waste kept at the plant. Officials said such incidents happen every year at this time due to extreme heat.
