India's phenomenal athlete Neeraj Chopra qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 by reaching the World Championship final with his best throw of 88.77 metres.
New Delhi: India’s phenomenal javelin athlete Neeraj Chopra kicked off his World Athletics Championships campaign in the men’s javelin throw qualifying round in Budapest, Hungary on Friday. The top Indian athlete recorded 88.77m in his first attempt to qualify for the final, which is also the season’s best. Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra will play in the Group A qualifier. He is heading into the championships as the world’s top-ranked javelin thrower and his goal will be to win that gold to boost not only his personal cabinet but India’s growing credentials in athletics. In the process, Neeraj also qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024.

In total, 27 javelin throwers, divided into Groups A and B, will play qualifiers with a view to Sunday’s 12-member final. The automatic qualifying mark for the final is 83.00m. In Group A, Neeraj will be the 18th man on the list.
