Saharanpur got the opportunity to host the state level sub junior girls’ competition by the UP Kabaddi Association under the aegis of Uttar Pradesh Sports Directorate. The competition was organized at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium. Teams from 17 divisions and one sports hostel participated in the competition. The arrangements for the stay and food of the players were in the stadium itself.
The food in the stadium was prepared in the swimming pool complex. There raw ration was kept in changing rooms and toilets. At the same time, food was prepared by making a brick stove outside. After preparing the food, he was placed in the toilet. Big parathas and puris of rice were placed on the floor of the toilet on paper. Raw rice was served to the players, which many players refused to eat. After this the rice was removed from the table. In such a situation, only potato curry, lentils and raita were left on the table.
More than 300 players and about two dozen officers-employees from across the state reached the competition. Only two artisans were employed to prepare food for them. This was the reason why most of the players could not get bread. The rice came of poor quality, which when cooked did not thaw properly. In such a situation, new rice was ordered by sending the rice back to the shop immediately.
Sports officer Animesh Saxena says that construction work is going on in the stadium. Because of this there was no place here. Food was being prepared in the open. Due to the rain, the food was kept in the toilet. The rice had also arrived of poor quality.
