WC semi-final: Mumbai crime branch detained 17-year-old boy for sending threatening messages to police

Mumbai: A 17-year-old boy detained by the Crime Branch team of Mumbai Police from the Latur district of Maharashtra in case of sending a threatening message to Mumbai Police on their social media platform X . However, police is investigating into finding out why he posted the threat.

Mumbai: A 17-year-old boy detained by the Crime Branch team of Mumbai Police from the Latur district of Maharashtra in case of sending a threatening message to Mumbai Police on their social media platform X . However, police is investigating into finding out why he posted the threat.

In A statement, Mumbai Police said,”Mumbai Crime Branch detained a 17-year-old youth from Latur district. Why did he post the threat message is yet to be ascertained.” After receiving a message on social media, Mumbai Police launched a probe about potential disruption during the World Cup semi-final 2023 match between India and New Zealand in the city today.

The young man who threatened police is a big fan of cricketer Virat Kohli. The investigation into the matter is still underway. He posted a picture on X in which it was written that fire would be set during the India vs New Zealand match, however, after investigation the matter was found to be fake.

Police said that Mumbai Police ramped up security measures at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, following a threat from an unidentified individual. However, Mumbai Police has already made tight security arrangements for the match, more than 150 officers including 600 police personnel, drone cameras, CCTV, QRT, SRPF RIOT CONTROL, and police have been deployed on several locations.

The threat, posted on X (formerly Twitter), warned of a potential incident during the much-anticipated cricket match between India and New Zealand. The person had posted a picture of a gun, grenade, and cartridges. A picture was posted in which it was written that fire would be set during the India vs New Zealand match, however,after investigation the matter was found to be fake.

A Mumbai Police official said that after the threat, the police are maintaining a strict vigil at the Wankhede stadium, where the match is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, Strict vigilance is being done in the area around the stadium and nearby areas.
