West Bengal: 3 people killed and 30 injured as brick kiln chimney collapses on workers

West Bengal: Police said that at least three workers were dead and over 30 people injured after the chimney of a brick kiln collapsed on them in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The tragic event unfolded on Wednesday evening at Dhaltitah village in Basirhat while the brick kiln was operational.

West Bengal: Police said that at least three workers were dead and over 30 people injured after the chimney of a brick kiln collapsed on them in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The tragic event unfolded on Wednesday evening at Dhaltitah village in Basirhat while the brick kiln was operational.

Giving details about this incident, a police officer said,”All those injured in the accident are workers of the brick kiln. One person died while undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital, while two bodies were found from under the debris.”

He added, “Around 20 people are undergoing treatment at the Basirhat Hospital. Two injured persons were sent to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata as their condition was very critical.”

Two of those who died were residents of Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh. They were identified as Jethuram and Rakesh Kumar. The second deceased was identified as local Hafeezul Mandal.

The official said that a large police team has been deployed for the rescue operation, which is still going on.He said the reason for the chimney collapse is not yet known and it will be investigated.
