A senior police officer gave this information on Sunday. The Barrackpore Police Commissionerate official said that the accused, aged 18-19 years, were apprehended from Kamarhati and Titagarh areas around midnight. “We are trying to ascertain all possible aspects by questioning him,” he said. One of those arrested is from Kamarhati, while the rest are from Titagarh.
On Saturday, a country-made bomb exploded on the roof of the school building while studying in the classroom. Police said there were no casualties in the incident as students and teachers were in rooms located on the first two floors of the three-storey building.
The official said that preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had changed their initial intention to hurl a powerful country-made bomb at the school gate as there was a crowd at the spot. They said that they climbed onto the roof of an adjoining building to commit the act.
Three of those arrested are former school students, the official said. Personal enmity between the accused and some other students of the school is believed to be the primary motive behind the incident. He said that 10 country-made bombs were found during a search operation at the residence of one of the accused.
