Kolkata: In a big announcement, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today announced the creation of seven new districts in the state. Earlier there were 23 districts in Bengal, now it has been increased to 30. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee informed that 7 new districts will be named Sunderban, Ichhemti, Ranaghat, Bishnupur, Jangipur, Behrampur and one more district will be named Basirhat. Apart from this, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that we will change the cabinet on Wednesday and 4 to 5 new faces will become ministers.
Regarding the cabinet reshuffle, the West Bengal CM said, ‘Many people are writing a lot. We do not have plans to dissolve the entire ministry and create a new one. Yes, there will be a change. We lost ministers Subrata Mukherjee, Sadhan Pandey. Parth is in jail so all his work has to be done. It is not possible for me to handle alone. We will reshuffle the cabinet on Wednesday. 4-5 new faces will be included in the cabinet.’
Last week, Mamata Banerjee had said that she had nothing to do with the arrest of Partha Chatterjee by the ED in connection with the multi-crore West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scam. Mamta said, “Some mistakes are bound to happen while running a big organisation. If someone commits a wrong and it is proved legally, the wrongdoer will be punished. However, he also launched a scathing attack against the central government over the way the ED operated in this case.
