West Bengal: On Saturday, officials said that a major fire broke out in Dum Dum area of Kolkata, gutting several shanties in a slum. After receiving information about this incident local police and fire tenders reached on the spot.

The incident happened at Mela Bagan in Dum Dum area. However, no casualties have been reported so far in the incident. Official said at least eight fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire as thick smoke and flames were seen emanating from the shanties.

The shanties were mainly made of plastic and other inflammable materials. A fire brigade official said,”Fire fighting operations are on as fire tenders are facing difficulties in reaching the spot due to disputed lanes but we are trying our best to use alternative methods to douse the fire.”
