West Bengal: On Friday, The Enforcement Directorate raided the premises of a businessman linked to Sheikh Shahjahan and six other locations, who is accused of sexual harassment and land grab in Sandeshkhali in West Bengal.
On Friday morning, The central agency raided the residence of a businessman in Howrah, who is related to Shahjahan, according to Enforcement Directorate sources.
The probe agency official said that the raid is in connection with an alleged scam related to the MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scheme.
Raids are underway at Sheikh Shahjahan’s house and six other locations. This is the second round of raids in a week by the central agency in connection with the MGNREGA scam. Last time, the raids were carried out in the houses of government staff and panchayat members.
West Bengal is witnessing a tussle between the Mamata Banerjee government and the Center over MNREGA funds, with the Trinamool alleging that the central government has stopped providing funds, while the BJP has accused the state government of corruption.
