New Delhi: WhatsApp announced on today the release of its updated group voice calls experience that brings the ability to let users mute other participants. The update also introduces the option to let users message a specific participant while on the call. These will be available on WhatsApp beta for Android and iOS. However, with this latest update, WhatsApp’s group calling feature will become more useful.
Taking to Twitter, WhatsApp’s CEO Will Cathcart also gave information on the latest upgrades for group calls on his official account. He said on Twitter, “Some new group call capabilities on @WhatsApp: You may now mute or message particular persons on a call (excellent for when someone forgets to mute themselves! ), and we’ve introduced a handy indicator to assist you recognise when additional people join large calls.”

In April 2022, WhatsApp rolled out the possibility to add up to 32 members to a group call. WhatsApp previously allowed only 8 participants to join a group video call at a time.
To get the option to mute or message a participant on the call, you need to press and hold the name card of that participant. A pop-up menu will appear with the given options. You may instantly message or mute any participant on a group conversation,” stated WABetaInfo. “In particular, the option to silence specific persons on a call is quite beneficial when someone forgets to mute themselves. Note that the ability to mute is not restricted to the person who established the call: anybody can mute,” it added.
