Lucknow: The auspicious festival of Dhanteras, also known as Dhanatrayodash, is celebrated with so much zeal and fervour in India since it is regarded as one of the most important of all Hindu festivals. On this special day people buy gold or silver coins, jewellery, new clothing, and utensils since it is thought that doing so brings good luck into one’s life.
Dhanteras is celebrated on the thirteenth day of the Vadhya paksha or Krishna paksha each year and marks the beginning of the five-day-long festivities for Diwali. On this day, people worship Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Kuber and Lord Ganesh’s idols and seek their blessings. People also send loving greetings to their loved ones.
