Woman Escapes Police Custody After Arrest for Cyber Fraud in Haryana

Pune: A woman arrested for her involvement in a ₹4-crore cyber fraud managed to flee from police custody while being transported from Haryana to Pune on a train. The incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, leaving law enforcement authorities in Pune on high alert.

Details of the Escape:

The accused, identified as Saniya (24), also known as Gudiya alias Sofia Siddique, was apprehended from her residence in Faridabad, Haryana, on February 17. She was wanted in connection with a cyber fraud case amounting to ₹4 crore, leading to her arrest by a Pune police team.

The Pune police team, consisting of one woman constable and four male constables, was escorting Saniya to Pune via Duronto Express. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the accused managed to free her hands from the handcuffs and evade the constables, making her escape at approximately 4:10 am on Sunday.

Realization and Search Operation:

The police team discovered the escape only after the train reached Ratlam station. Immediate efforts were initiated to locate the fugitive, with the search extending to Kota based on CCTV footage. A formal complaint was lodged on Monday as part of the ongoing investigation.

Manoj Soni, Circle Inspector at the GRP police station in Kota, stated that intensive efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the escaped woman.

Investigation and Leads:

Preliminary findings indicate that Saniya briefly stayed at a lodge on Mala Road in Kota before departing. Authorities are working diligently to gather information and follow leads that may aid in her swift capture.
