Chief Justice of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi stated that a woman can file complaint against her in-laws or husband if she is harassed from the place where she sought shelter.

Earlier than this, the complaint could only be lodged from the place where the harassment or offence occurred and not from any other place.

This SC judgement settled a debate on the issue regarding the place of filing of the case under the above section.
