Women’s Boxing World Championships: Saweety Boora, Nitu Ghanghas scripts history, wins gold for India

With this victory, Neetu Ghanghas has become the sixth Indian boxer to have won a gold medal in the World Championships.

New Delhi: India’s Neetu Ghanghas and Sweety Pura gave a great gift to crores of Indian sports fans by winning gold medals in their respective categories at the World Boxing Championships on Saturday. Neetu won gold in 48 kg, while Sweety won gold in 81 kg. With these two medals, Neetu and Sweety became the sixth and seventh Indian boxers respectively to win a gold medal in the history of the competition. Sweety Boora defeated China’s Wang Ling 4-3.

In the first final played, in the 48 kg weight category, Mongolia’s Lutsaikhan Altansetseg won the gold medal by defeating 5-0. Neetu was also the gold medalist of the Commonwealth Games last year. And now he has made his strength felt on the best stage of the world as well. In the semi-final match, Neetu made it to the final by defeating Kazakhstan’s Elua Balkibenavo.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated Nitu Ghanghas for winning gold in Women’s Boxing World Championships.

Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny Rl from Neetu to India at the World Boxing Championships. Lekha Kisi and Nikhat Zareen have won gold medals. Where the boxy boxers have captured the gold medal once each, Mary Kom has won the gold medal on the global stage six times, which tells how big a boxer she has been.

Talking about the second match, in the 81 kg weight category, Sweety displayed a very aggressive style from the very first round and attacked China’s Wang Lina one after the other. And it paid off as Sweety had a one point lead against the rival boxer at the end of the first round. In the second round, Chinese Wang Lina made an amazing comeback and hit some great shots on Sweety. Overall, there was a fierce competition in this final match, but in the end, Sweety made the match 4-3 in her favor.
