The aim of the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE is to create awareness of the disease among the public and to raise understanding regarding its early detection through lung cancer screening.
The theme for World Lung Cancer Day 2022 is “Close the Care Gap”, which essentially means recognising the difficulties that are being faced by cancer patients and providing them with all kinds of help without any discrimination.
Lung cancer is just like other cancers where abnormal growth and multiplication of cells occur in the lungs. It is the leading reason behind cancer deaths across the world.
Deaths due to lung cancer have been growing at a fast speed in India. It is almost incurable. In India, 5.9% death occurs every year due to this disease. The number of cancer patients in India is expected to go up to 29.8 million in 2025 from 26.7 million in 2021.
Early detection of cancer is crucial for its treatment. Therefore, one should always pay attention to their health and never take any health-related issue lightly, as it may turn deadly. Everyone should go for a regular check-up before it takes any dangerous root.
In the era of the 40s, a major rise in lung cancer gradually took place, which became one of the leading causes of death around the globe. Several human activities are responsible for the rise in lung cancer cases, such as smoking, inhaling toxic gases, an unhealthy lifestyle, poor dietary intake, and so on.
On this day, social workers, NGOs, individuals, and a variety of organisations try to spread awareness among the people about the disease, how to prevent it, and if it occurs, then how to deal with it. Timely treatment can save the lives of a huge number of lung cancer patients.
