WPL’s Surprise ‘Crorepati’ Vrinda Dinesh’s First Goal: Gifting Dream Car to Parents

In a groundbreaking moment for 22-year-old cricketer Vrinda Dinesh, she secured a remarkable Rs 1.30 crore deal in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction, becoming the second-highest paid uncapped Indian player. Despite the financial milestone, Vrinda, overwhelmed with emotions, refrained from making a video call to her mother, anticipating an emotional outpour.

Emotional Moments, Silent Joy, and a Mother’s Tears

During an interaction organized by UP Warriorz, the team that acquired her, Vrinda shared her heartfelt sentiments, “I think she (mother) was in tears. I did not video call her because I knew I would see those tears. I just called her, and it was a very faint voice.”

Expressing gratitude for her parents’ sacrifices, Vrinda revealed her plans for the substantial earnings, stating, “I just want to make them proud. I will give my parents the car they have always dreamed of. That is my first goal right now, and I will see whatever later on.”

Addressing the pressure associated with a significant price tag, Vrinda emphasized her commitment to playing and enjoying the sport, dismissing the notion that the price tag would affect her performance.

The right-hand batter expressed her aspirations, including the desire to open the innings alongside cricket stalwart Alyssa Healy. Reflecting on the surreal nature of playing alongside cricket greats like Healy, Tahlia McGrath, Dani Wyatt, and Sophie Ecclestone, Vrinda shared her admiration for Healy’s batting style and leadership skills.

While her unspoken wish was to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Vrinda embraced the opportunity with UP Warriorz, pledging to give her best for the team’s success in the upcoming WPL.

Having auditioned for all five WPL sides and choosing UP Warriorz, Vrinda highlighted the enjoyable experience during trials, match simulations, and skill sessions. She credited the team for teaching her valuable skills that she applied during the recent season.

Reflecting on her cricket journey, Vrinda pointed to the turning point when she missed several games for Karnataka but rebounded with consecutive centuries in the senior women’s competition in 2020. Starting cricket at the age of 13, Vrinda’s journey from gully cricket to professional success showcases her dedication to the sport.

Vrinda Dinesh’s story resonates with determination, familial love, and a passion for cricket, setting the stage for a promising career in the world of women’s cricket.
