BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chairman Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said he will expose the "political conspiracy" against him.
New Delhi: BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chairman Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been facing allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation by several women wrestlers. Meanwhile, the WFI boss has been saying allegations against him are baseless, and he will expose the “political conspiracy” that has played a big role in destroying the dignity of women wrestlers on Friday at noon.
Wrestler Vinesh Phogat accused Singh of sexually exploiting women wrestlers for years. The 28-year-old ace wrestler remarked that she had not faced such exploitation; she further claimed that “one victim” was sitting on the ‘dharna’ that the wrestlers started at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday.
The top wrestlers of the country are against the WFI president, and it gained momentum on Thursday as Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Ravi Dahiya joined the sit-in at Jantar Mantar. The wrestlers are demanding that action rather than words be taken against the accused by the Union government. They are planning to register a police complaint regarding the sexual harassment and mental torture of women wrestlers by the WFI chief.
Vinesh said during the dharna on Thursday that the allegations against the WFI chief are true.”Don’t force us to expose the names; otherwise, it will be a black day for wrestlers as well as women of India.”
Vinesh went on to say that she got the death threats through the WFI president and officials who are close to him because she had shown courage and drawn the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on several issues that are troubling Indian wrestling when she met him after the Tokyo Olympic games.
However, Singh refused to resign from his post, saying, “The allegations have no base.” Why should I quit? Even if one woman wrestler comes and proves the sexual harassment charge, I am ready to be hanged.
