Yoga Day 2023: PM Modi to lead Yoga session in UN Secretariat today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead a yoga session at the United Nations on Wednesday on the occasion of International Yoga Day. Diplomats and other dignitaries from across the world will participate in the ninth International Day of Yoga at the UN Headquarters.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead a yoga session at the United Nations on Wednesday on the occasion of International Yoga Day. Diplomats and other dignitaries from across the world will participate in the ninth International Day of Yoga at the UN Headquarters. PM Modi, who lobbied for the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations General Assembly nine years ago, will witness the event for the first time at the UN Headquarters since then.

PM Modi has reached the US on his first state visit at the invitation of US President Joe Biden. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ruchira Kamboj said that this time the celebration of Yoga Day in the United Nations will be special. On the initiative of PM Modi, the whole world celebrates International Yoga Day on 21st June. This time he himself will lead the program here.

The yoga session will be held at the UN Headquarters from 8 am to 9 am at the same place where the statue of Mahatma Gandhi gifted from India has been installed. It was established in December last year. Representatives of more than 180 countries will participate in the program. Apart from the UN, grand events of Yoga Day are proposed at the local level in other countries as well.

It is noteworthy that on the initiative of India, in December 2014, a proposal was brought in the United Nations General Assembly to celebrate June 21 as International Yoga Day. It was supported by a record 175 member states. The main national event will be held in Jabalpur The main national level event on International Yoga Day will be held in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will participate in it.

Under the joint aegis of the Union Ministry of AYUSH and the state government, the program will be organized at the Garrison Maidan, where 15,000 people will do yoga. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will be part of the yoga program on INS Vikrant. Army will also organize Yoga Day at its various centres. Apart from this, programs will be organized at the local level in all the states.
