Guwahati: A surprising case has come to light in Lakhimpur district of Assam. Where, a Hindu youth who refused to convert after marrying a Christian girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances. On Thursday, the police arrested seven people in this case. According to the information received from the police, the body of the youth Bishal Bishal was found on September 12 fighting against a tree in Koilamari Balijan area of the district itself. Regarding the matter, Lakhimpur SP BM Rajkhowa said, the deceased was a Hindu and he had married a Christian girl a few days back. It is true that there was mental and social pressure from the girl’s family to convert to Christianity. But we are yet to know whether he was murdered or whether he committed suicide.

According to local media reports, a few hours before the incident, some people took Bishal from his house. However, the police have denied this claim. The SP said that this claim is false. Bishal had left the house of his own free will. We have arrested three people on suspicion of being responsible for his death and two others who were pressurizing him to convert.

On Thursday, all the seven accused were produced in the court where the court has sent them to seven-day police custody. Police and family are awaiting the post-mortem report of the body. At the same time, the police is engaged in the investigation of this matter.

We found blood on his nose, ears and eyes. It made us think he did not die by suicide, but was murdered and hanged,” Bishal’s neighbour Arup Barek told reporters.

“The girl’s family is behind this because she had eloped and come to his house. Since she is a minor, Bishal’s family had asked her to visit and discuss the matter, but her family members came with a lot of people and sticks and thrashed him,” Mr Barek said.
