60 people have died in Manipur violence so far, CM appeals for peace

CM Biren Singh told that so far 20 thousand stranded people have been evacuated. About 10,000 people are still stranded.

60 people have died in Manipur violence so far, CM appeals for peace

Manipur violence: During the violence that broke out in Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday appealed to the people of the state to bring peace. On Monday, the Chief Minister appealed to the people to maintain peace in the state and said that about 60 innocent people have been killed in this caste violence. 231 people have been injured in this violence so far and 1700 houses have been burnt in this violence that broke out on 3 May.

CM Biren Singh told that so far 20 thousand stranded people have been evacuated. About 10,000 people are still stranded. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is monitoring the situation from the day of the incident till today. He has also sent several companies of central forces.

Along with this, the CM told that the curfew has been relaxed for the people to buy essential goods. Rs 5 lakh for the family of the deceased, Rs 2 lakh for those injured with serious injuries and Rs 25,000 for non-serious injuries and up to Rs 2 lakh for those whose houses have been burnt.

This statement of the CM of the state has come to the fore hours after the Supreme Court’s comment. The Supreme Court had expressed concern over the killing of many people and damage to property in the state in the violence that broke out in Manipur.

The Supreme Court had also said that the state government and the Center should take immediate action on this and speed up the rehabilitation efforts of the people affected by the violence. On behalf of the Central Government, in front of a bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrajud, it was said that no untoward incident has been reported in Manipur in the last two days, the Center said that the situation is slowly returning to normal.

The Supreme Court has directed to make arrangements for rehabilitation. Along with this, the Central and Manipur governments have been asked to file a status report in 10 days. Now the date of May 17 has been fixed for the next hearing in the case.
