A major accident has taken place in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. According to information, a five-story residential building collapsed on Monday in Cairo, killing at least nine people. The officers provided this information. According to officials, rescue workers at the scene have started searching the debris of the building. Building collapse is common in Egypt, where poor quality construction and lack of maintenance are widespread in slum areas, poor urban areas and rural areas. The reasons for the building collapse are yet to be ascertained.

Neighboring buildings evacuated

The accident site is about 3.2 km from the city centre. Rescuers recovered at least nine bodies from under the rubble of a building in Hadak al-Kubba, a city neighboring Cairo, according to Egypt’s state news agency. Aassistance to the families of the deceased

Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity said it would give 60,000 Egyptian pounds (about US$1,940) in aid to the families of the nine victims. The ministry also said it would provide assistance to the injured and was monitoring damage to nearby properties.
