During an IPL match in Delhi, some supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were held by the Delhi Police for demonstrating against the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in a case related to money laundering linked to the excise policy.

The protesters, wearing T-shirts with the slogan ‘Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se’, raised their voices in support of Kejriwal during the match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. This slogan is part of AAP’s campaign following Kejriwal’s arrest.

AAP shared a video on their official account showing supporters chanting slogans supporting Kejriwal along with “Bharat Mata ki Jai.” Additionally, the AAP’s student wing, Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), staged a protest against what they believed was the unjust arrest of the Delhi Chief Minister during the IPL match.

In response, a senior police officer confirmed that individuals were detained for causing a disturbance in one of the stands and urged everyone to enjoy the game peacefully.

The protest took place after the Rouse Avenue Court extended Kejriwal’s custody till May 20 in the excise policy case. The Supreme Court also reserved its order on Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the ED in the money laundering case, expressing concerns about possible interference in government affairs if interim bail was granted.

The excise policy case involves allegations of corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of Delhi’s excise policy for 2021-22. Kejriwal’s name has been mentioned in the charge sheets filed by the ED multiple times in connection with the case.
