After massive backlash, Adipurush makers change Hanuman’s controversial dialogue

New Delhi: Prabhas (Prabhas) starrer film ‘Adipurush’ (Adipurush) has been mired in controversies since its release. The makers of the film were constantly being targeted for the dialogues, costumes and star cast of the film. On social media too, there was a lot of negative reaction of the users about the film. Now the makers of the film have confirmed that the controversial dialogues have been edited and replaced with new dialogues. Information has been given on behalf of T-series that now the edited version of the film is being shown in theaters only.

One line in particular, spoken by actor Devdatta Nage as Bajrang, was singled out by critics and audiences as offensive – “Kapda tere baap ka, tel tere baap ka, aag bhi tere baap ki, aur jalegi bhi tere baap ki,” he said in the scene in which Bajrang sets fire to Lanka. The word “baap” has been replaced by “Lanka” in new prints of the Om Raut-directed film.

Shortly after the release of Adipurush, the film had to be trimmed and changed. Some parts of the film had raised strong objections from a section of the audience. People had objections regarding some lines in the dialogues of the film.

The film is based on the Hindu religious book Ramayana, so people had also accused of hurting religious sentiments. People called some of the dialogues written by the film’s writer Manoj Muntashir as galichhap and called it an insult to one of the biggest texts, Ramayana.

Adipurush, a retelling of some events in the Ramayana, stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan as Raghav, Janaki and Lankesh respectively. In addition to Devdatta Nage as Bajrang, Sunny Singh rounds out the main cast as Shesh. The film has been roundly criticized not just for the lack of elegance in its dialogues but also for the visualization and depiction of a revered epic.
