Punjab: On Monday, Dharamvir Gandhi, Former AAP MP from Patiala, Punjab, in the presence of senior party leaders joined the Congress. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections his joining comes. He is likely to contest as a Congress candidate from the Patiala seat.
In 2014, He won the Lok Sabha election as an AAP candidate by defeating Preneet Kaur from Patiala. Mr Gandhi, a doctor by profession, had quit the AAP in 2016 and formed his own party, Navan Punjab Party, which he merged with the Congress on Monday.
Party leaders Pawan Khera and AICC in-charge for Punjab Devendra Yadav, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Congress Legislature Party leader Pratap Singh Bajwa welcomed Gandhi into the party.
Mr Bajwa said his joining will strengthen the Congress, while Mr Warring said it was a good sign for such professionals to join the party.
