Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has extended an offer of 17 Lok Sabha seats to Congress in Uttar Pradesh as part of the I.N.D.I.A bloc’s seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Akhilesh Yadav’s party communicated the offer to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge via a letter, outlining the allocation of seats proposed for Congress in Uttar Pradesh. However, Congress is yet to respond to the offer.
This revised offer comes after an initial proposal of 11 seats made by the Samajwadi Party, reflecting ongoing negotiations between the two parties. The final decision on Akhilesh Yadav’s participation in the Nyay Yatra in Raebareli hinges on Congress’ acceptance of the offer.
While confirming the revised offer, Samajwadi Party’s chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary refrained from disclosing the specific constituencies designated for Congress. The negotiations aim to ensure a fair and equitable distribution of seats among coalition partners.
The development unfolds as the Gandhi-led Nyay Yatra progresses through Uttar Pradesh, with recent stops in Amethi and upcoming plans to visit Raebareli. Akhilesh Yadav’s potential involvement in the yatra in Raebareli is contingent upon the ongoing negotiations with Congress.
Negotiations between the Samajwadi Party and Congress continue as the parties navigate the complexities of seat allocation. The Congress’ state unit had previously sought a higher allocation than the initial offer of 11 seats, emphasizing its historical performance and electoral presence in the region.
Both the Samajwadi Party and Congress are integral partners in the opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc, with discussions centered on forging a cohesive electoral strategy to challenge the incumbent administration in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
