Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav shared a cordial moment at the Bihar Assembly, days after Nitish Kumar broke away from the Mahagathbandhan and aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Lalu Yadav, accompanied by his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, was at the Vidhan Sabha secretariat along with his son Tejashwi Yadav. The encounter took place when they crossed paths with Nitish Kumar. Despite recent political tensions and the end of their alliance, the leaders exchanged pleasantries and warmly shook hands, reflecting little signs of bitterness.
Lalu Yadav accompanied RJD candidates Manoj Kumar Jha and Sanjay Yadav, who filed their nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Manoj Kumar Jha, the party’s national spokesman, is expected to secure his second consecutive term in Rajya Sabha. Sanjay Yadav, a close aide of Tejashwi Yadav, will be making his debut in Parliament.
There were speculations that the ruling NDA might field a fourth candidate to complicate the scenario for the Congress-RJD combine. However, state BJP president Samrat Choudhary, who is also a Deputy Chief Minister, denied these speculations, stating that only three candidates had been fielded by the JD(U)-BJP combine, and there would be no additional nominees.
