On April 24th, Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan and music maestro AR Rahman were honored with the esteemed Deenanath Mangeshkar awards in a gala event held in Mumbai. The ceremony, held at Mumbai’s Vile Parle area, witnessed the recognition of several luminaries including Randeep Hooda and Ashok Saraf.
Amitabh Bachchan was presented with the prestigious Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar, commemorating the legacy of the legendary Deenanath Mangeshkar, father of the Mangeshkar siblings. Meanwhile, AR Rahman received the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar for his profound contributions to Indian music.

The event, attended by members of the Mangeshkar family and distinguished guests, saw singer Usha Mangeshkar bestowing the award upon Amitabh Bachchan. However, Asha Bhosle, who was scheduled to present the award, was unable to attend due to health reasons.

Expressing gratitude for the honor, Amitabh Bachchan remarked, “I’m fortunate to receive this award today. I never really regarded myself worthy of such an award, but Hridyanath ji tried hard so that I could come here.”
In his heartfelt speech, Bachchan reminisced about his father’s admiration for Lata Mangeshkar’s voice, likening it to the flow of honey and the connection it creates with the divine.
Meanwhile, AR Rahman, taking to his Instagram, expressed his honor in receiving the Deenanath Mangeshkar award, praising the Mangeshkar family’s dedication to art.
Alongside Bachchan and Rahman, notable figures such as Randeep Hooda, Ashok Saraf, Roopkumar Rathod, and Padmini Kolhapure were also felicitated at the event.
Established in memory of the iconic Lata Mangeshkar, the award holds significant prestige within the artistic community. The Mangeshkar family and the trust continue to uphold the legacy of Lata Mangeshkar through this esteemed recognition, which has previously been bestowed upon luminaries such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Asha Bhosle.
