Arvind Kejriwal Govt to Unveil 10th Budget Today, Focused on ‘Ram Rajya’ Concept

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government is set to unveil its 10th annual budget today for the financial year 2024-25, with a strong focus on the concept of “Ram Rajya.” This budget, expected to cater to all sections of society in this election year, will align with principles championed by the Chief Minister, who has often spoken about the ideals of “Ram Rajya.”

Budget Allocations and Initiatives

The budget session of the Delhi Assembly commenced on February 15 and has been extended until early March, allowing ample time for deliberations. This year’s budget holds significance as it will be the first one presented by Delhi Finance Minister Atishi, who joined the cabinet in March last year.

Sources within the AAP government indicate that the budget is likely to prioritize quality education, healthcare services, free electricity, water access, and women’s safety – all in line with the tenets of “Ram Rajya.” Chief Minister Kejriwal has previously highlighted these principles, stating that his government has adopted 10 principles of “Ram Rajya.”

Focus on Unauthorised Colonies

In a move aimed at improving infrastructure and living conditions, it is anticipated that the budget will allocate Rs 1,000 crore for initiatives targeting the city’s 1,800 unauthorised colonies, which house approximately 30% of Delhi’s population. The government aims to bolster road networks, enhance water-supply pipelines, and upgrade sewer networks in these areas.

Currently, around 1,400 unauthorised colonies in Delhi have access to basic amenities like water and sewer lines, with a network of over 5,000 km of roads. Additionally, 1,031 unauthorised colonies are connected to the sewer network, boasting more than 4,000 km of installed sewer lines. This budget is expected to further improve the living standards in these crucial areas of the capital.
