Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief, Arvind Kejriwal, is set to navigate a critical day as he grapples with a trust vote in the Delhi Assembly and a court appearance in connection with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons related to the liquor policy case.
In a bid to showcase unity within the party, Arvind Kejriwal moved a motion of confidence in the Delhi Assembly, alleging attempts by the BJP to “poach” AAP MLAs. The Chief Minister revealed that two AAP MLAs claimed they were offered ₹25 crore each to join the BJP, emphasizing his commitment to maintaining the party’s cohesion.
Simultaneously, Kejriwal is expected to appear before a Delhi court to address the ED’s concerns regarding his non-compliance with five earlier summons. The ED alleges intentional defiance and has summoned him again on February 19. The AAP leader and his party contend that the summonses are illegal, and the ED’s motive is to orchestrate his arrest.
The ED’s investigation is part of a larger probe into an alleged scam involving liquor companies and kickbacks to public servants. The BJP accuses the AAP of utilizing the proceeds to fund its campaign in Gujarat, where the party gained significant traction.
Kejriwal, with 62 MLAs in the 70-member Assembly, seeks to reassert his government’s stability in the face of political and legal challenges. The court appearance today holds significance as it may influence the ongoing narrative surrounding the AAP leader and his party’s stance against the ED’s summons.
