Assam Police has taken into custody Congress MLA Aftabuddin Mollah on allegations of making derogatory remarks concerning priests, namgharias, and saints. This incident was brought to light through an official statement by DGP GP Singh.

The case against Aftabuddin Mollah was registered at Dispur police station under Sections 295(a), 153A(1)(b), and 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These sections of the IPC pertain to actions that could incite religious or communal disharmony and disturb public tranquillity.

According to reports, a complaint led to the registration of the case, with the police acting swiftly to investigate the matter. Aftabuddin Mollah is alleged to have delivered an inflammatory speech during a public meeting in Goalpara district on November 4. This speech purportedly targeted priests, namgharias, and seers, which led to the registration of the case at the Dispur Police station under the aforementioned IPC sections, as cited by DGP GP Singh.
