Assam: IMD predicts heavy rainfall; issues yellow, orange alert for next 5 days

New Delhi: Most of the country including Delhi-NCR and entire North India is in the grip of severe heat at this time. But, in the meantime, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted widespread heavy to very heavy rains over Assam for the next five days. For this, the Meteorological Department has issued a special weather bulletin on Sunday.

The Guwahati-based Regional Meteorological Center of the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Sunday and Monday in a special weather bulletin issued on Sunday. Along with this, ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued from Tuesday to Thursday.

‘Yellow Alert’issued by the Meteorological Department means monitoring the weather activities, while ‘Orange Alert’ means getting ready for action. Due to strong westerly/southwesterly wind conditions at lower levels from Bay of Bengal towards Northeast India, moisture formation is very likely during these five days.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, “Under its influence, Assam would see fairly widespread rainfall activities for the next five days with very heavy to very heavy rain/thunderstorm accompanied by lightning.”

According to the Meteorological Department, these weather conditions are also likely to form in other northeastern states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram. During this time, due to water logging on the roads, there may be a situation of traffic obstruction, as well as incidents of uprooting of trees, breaking of its branches due to storm can also happen.

There is also a possibility of electrical problems arising in these circumstances. It has been said in the report that ‘Due to heavy rains, there may be damage to standing crops and ready vegetables. Humans and cattle can also get injured due to lightning in open places.

According to the report, due to heavy rains in many places, situations like floods and landslides can also arise.
