Azam Khan’s trust-managed school is now under the ownership of the UP government

The possession of Rampur Public School, managed by Azam Khan’s trust, along with an office of the Samajwadi Party leader and a location for party activities, has been handed over to the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Department. This decision, in line with a state cabinet resolution, was implemented with the placement of locks on the buildings in the presence of heavy police force, including the Additional District Magistrate and Additional Superintendent of Police.

The District Inspector of Schools received control of both properties, sealing them following a state cabinet decision to reclaim over 41,000 square feet of leased land from Azam Khan’s Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar Trust. The move came after a panel reported lease deed violations. The administration terminated the 30-year lease and handed control to the education department, despite protests from the SP’s Rampur city unit president.

The Samajwadi Party’s local office and Rampur Public School were both affected, with conflicting claims over the property boundaries. The SP leader, Asim Raja, protested, asserting that the school building was vacated without issue, but the SP office was forcibly occupied in a rented building. The DIOS notice, citing the cabinet decision, mandated the building’s evacuation within seven days.

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet’s decision on October 31 aimed to withdraw ownership of leased land from Azam Khan’s trust, transferring it to the secondary education department. The trust had obtained the land in 2007, establishing the Muhammad Ali Jauhar University. The ownership withdrawal followed a committee’s report on lease deed violations.
