Azharuddin Encourages Voting, Stresses Civic Responsibility in Telangana Elections

Jubilee Hills Congress candidate, Mohammad Azharuddin, cast his vote in the ongoing Telangana elections for the 119 assembly seats. After exercising his franchise, the former cricketer emphasized the importance of voting, stating, “It is important to vote. If you don’t vote, then you don’t have any right to question…” Azharuddin is making a return to active politics with his candidacy for the Jubilee Hills Assembly seat.

In the 2018 elections, the Jubilee Hills constituency was won by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now BRS). This time, Azharuddin faces competition from the BRS’s incumbent MLA Maganti Gopinath and BJP candidate Lankala Deepak Kumar. The counting of votes is scheduled for December 3.

Notably, a total of 2,290 candidates from 109 national and regional parties, including 221 women and one transgender candidate, are in the fray. Over 3.17 crore voters will determine their fate, with 35,655 polling stations set up across the state.

In a first for Telangana, a home voting facility has been provided for persons with disabilities and voters above 80 years of age. About 27,600 voters, including those over 80 and differently-abled, have enlisted for home voting. Additionally, around 1,000 voters have registered for the Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is contesting from two seats — Gajwel and Kamareddy — facing challenges from BJP leader Etela Rajender and Congress state unit chief Revanth Reddy, respectively.
