Bengaluru: Tight security on eve of New Year, police impose 1 am deadline for parties

Bengaluru: New Year is less than a week away. Strict security arrangements are being made in many states of the country on the eve of New Year due to the possibility of crowd gathering in major cities. In this order some restrictions have been imposed in Karnataka too.

Bengaluru: New Year is less than a week away. Strict security arrangements are being made in many states of the country on the eve of New Year due to the possibility of crowd gathering in major cities. According to the information received, the authorities in Bengaluru have taken strict security measures keeping in mind the safety of locals and tourists.

In this order some restrictions have been imposed in Karnataka too. The local authorities have announced strict measures, encompassing stringent checks on drink-driving, traffic regulations and heightened security on December 31.

Bengaluru Police Department has identified 48 check posts at various locations for New Year’s Eve. There will be deployment of traffic police at Jahan. Further, to streamline the flow of traffic and enhance safety, key areas in the city, such as MG Road, Residency Road, and Church Street will be vehicle-free from 8.00 pm onwards on the said date. Additionally, all flyovers in the city will be closed from 11 pm to 6 am.

The authorities have also launched a ‘Women’s Safety Island’ within the city, which will provide a safe place for women during New Year’s Eve celebrations. In a bid to manage crowd control, all parties in the city, including at hotels, clubs, and pubs, will be required to conclude by 1 am.

A total of 5200 constables, 1800 head constables, 600 assistant sub-inspectors, 600 sub-inspectors, 160 inspectors, 45 assistant commissioners of police, 15 deputy commissioners of police, 1 joint commissioner of police and 2 additional commissioners of police will be deployed in Bengaluru’s security. In line with the measures, hotels, clubs, and pubs in the city have been requested to maintain a record of customer details, including their names, ages, and phone numbers.
