Goa: In a distressing incident that has shocked the tech industry, Suchana Seth, co-founder and CEO of Bengaluru-based artificial intelligence start-up Mindful AI Labs, was arrested on suspicion of murdering her four-year-old son. The alleged incident unfolded at a service apartment in Candolim in North Goa, where Seth had checked in with his son on Saturday. The incident came to light on Monday when Seth went out alone, leaving a horrifying scene.

The hotel staff informed the police after noticing the son’s absence and blood stains in the apartment. The officials stopped Seth when she was going to Bengaluru in a hired taxi. Upon inspecting her luggage, they found her son’s body in a bag she was carrying. Seth had provided a fake address to the hotel staff regarding his son’s whereabouts, further increasing suspicion.

Ms Seth checked into the Sol Banyan Grande in North Goa’s Candolim with her son on Saturday. On Monday, she checked out of the room alone and asked the hotel staff to book her a taxi to Bengaluru. She insisted on taking a taxi despite being advised to take a flight, the staff said.

Given her significant contributions to the field of AI ethics, Suchana Seth’s arrest has shocked the tech community. Seth, a notable person in data science, had over 12 years of experience in this field. She was recognised among the ‘100 Brightest Women in AI Ethics for 2021’. Her professional journey also includes a fellowship at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Centre, a testament to her expertise and influence in the field.

The incident has left a lasting impact on the tech community and has raised questions about the mental health of professionals in the industry. While the case is still under investigation, the incident serves as a reminder of the often overlooked personal struggles that individuals can face regardless of their professional accomplishments. As the world of technology grapples with this tragedy, the focus is slowly shifting towards a deeper understanding of the human element behind the screen.
