Big blow to BJP as EX-Karnataka CM Jagadish Shettar joins Congress

Bengaluru/New Delhi: BJP has got another big blow in Karnataka. Angered by not getting ticket for the assembly elections from Hubli-Dharwad Central seat, Jagdish Shettar, the former chief minister of the BJP government, has resigned. Today he has joined Congress. He joined the party at the Congress office in Bangalore. Jagadish Shettar had also resigned from BJP on Saturday. The attempt by the BJP to persuade him failed.

Shettar joined the Congress today in the presence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party general secretary Randeep Surjewala in Bengaluru. Shettar has won the last 6 elections from this Hubli-Dharwad Central seat. He comes from the Lingayat community and has a lot of influence in his area. He has been involved in the big leaders of Karnataka. Jagdish Shettar has also been the State President of BJP and has also been the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. Apart from this, he has lived from BJP to the Chief Minister of the state.

It is being said that in an effort to persuade the BJP, an offer was also made to bring Jagdish Shettar into the politics of the Center. Along with this, the party also offered him a post in the central government, but all failed.

BJP sources say that Shettar was told by the party to write a letter to party chief JP Nadda informing him that he does not want to contest the elections, but Shettar got angry with this and came to the media and denied it. Made it public that the party is saying so. After his displeasure was exposed, the party stepped up its efforts, but nothing came of it. It is believed that Shettar’s departure will harm the party in the elections to be held in the state.

It is being said that Jagadish Shettar has been associated with the RSS and the BJP for nearly five decades. On the other hand, it is being indicated from the BJP that the party wants to give a chance to new leaders. That’s why senior leaders are being given other responsibilities. Earlier, BS Yeddyurappa was also not given the post of CM by the party.
