Dinesh Pratap Singh, a veteran in Uttar Pradesh politics, is the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) nominee for the Raebareli Lok Sabha constituency, traditionally held by the Congress.
Political Journey: Born on October 3, 1967, in Gunawar Kamangalpur village, Rae Bareli district, Singh began his political career in 2004 with the Samajwadi Party. He later joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) before ultimately aligning with the Congress in 2010.
Electoral Experience: Despite serving as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and contesting assembly elections, Singh faced setbacks until he found success with the Congress, winning two consecutive terms as an MLC.
Controversies: Singh’s political career has not been without controversy. He was suspended from the Congress in 2017 for alleged misconduct and attempts to undermine party leaders in Raebareli.
Switch to BJP: In 2018, Singh switched allegiance to the BJP and contested against Sonia Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Despite losing, he remained active in state politics and was elected as an MLC again in 2022, supported by the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government.
Influence and Claims: Singh, known for his influence in the Thakur community, has confidently asserted that any Gandhi, including Rahul Gandhi, would face defeat in Raebareli under his challenge.
As the BJP’s candidate in Raebareli, Singh is set to give Rahul Gandhi a tough competition in the upcoming elections.
