Authorities in northwestern China say 31 people were killed and 7 injured in a massive gas explosion at a barbecue restaurant in the city of Yinchuan. The incident was reported from a barbecue restaurant in the capital's Yinchuan Ningxia area.
A massive explosion rocked a barbecue restaurant in China’s Yinchuan province on Wednesday night. 31 people died in this accident, while 7 people have been admitted to the hospital. After this incident, President Xi Jinping has ordered a strict security investigation. The official news agency Xinhua has given information about this incident.
The blaze in Yinchuan, the capital of the Ningxia region, was caused by a leaking liquefied petroleum gas tank at the restaurant, Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday. Fire officials said most of the dead were pedestrians walking on the building’s sidewalk.
Xinhua said that seven people who were injured due to burns and cuts from broken glass are still being treated.
After the blast, a huge fire broke out in the restaurant and nearby shops. Several fire brigade vehicles are present on the spot to extinguish the fire. It is not yet clear what caused the fire in the restaurant. The Chinese administration has started investigating the cause of the fire.
Xi asked officials to make every effort to treat the injured and said that safety supervision should be strengthened in key industries and regions, Chinese state television reported.
