Bihar CM Nitish Kumar apologises amid controversy for his population control derogatory remarks

Union Minister and senior BJP leader from Bihar Ashwini Kumar Choubey also retaliated sharply to the words used by the CM. He said that Kumar has tarnished the dignity and decorum of democracy with his remarks. He demanded that Nitish Kumar should give immediate resignation and consult a doctor.

Patna: The political scene of Bihar has been engulfed by controversies following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s remarks during a speech in the state assembly. Kumar’s comments linking women’s education to population control and marriage conventions have been widely condemned by women legislators, the National Commission for Women and the public alike.

Today, On Wednesday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar apologised for his derogatory remarks on population control. He had made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking in the Bihar Assembly on Tuesday. The CM made the comments while speaking about the need to educate women in population control. “I apologise and I take back my words. If my words were wrong, I apologise. If anyone got hurt, I take them back,” he said.

While interacting with the Patna media on Wednesday, Nitish Kumar said, “I apologise and I take back my words.” He said that if someone has been offended by his remarks, he apologises for the same. He said that if someone continues to criticise him, then he cannot do anything about it, but he was willing to apologise for his remarks.

Population control statements made by 72-year-old had gone viral on social media. The women MLAs in Bihar had termed his words objectionable. On Wednesday, the women MLAs of the BJP even ‘gheraoed’ the main entrance of the Assembly. They did not allow the CM to enter the Assembly building. The CM was forced to use another route to enter the building.

The Opposition created massive ruckus in the House as soon as proceedings for the day started on Wednesday. Many opposition MLAs reached the well of the House and continued to raise slogans and protest against the CM’s remarks. They even demanded the resignation of the CM.

Opposition criticizes to Nitish Kumar’s remarks
The Bihar CM came under scanner of heavy criticism from all quarters for his statement made in the Assembly. Union Power Minister RK Singh who is from Bihar said. “We feel ashamed that he’s our state’s CM.” He said that everyone in Bihar should be ashamed that their CM is using such “obscene” language in the Assembly. He termed it as a “third-grade statement”. He went to the extent of saying that Nitish Kumar had lost his mind.

Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav gave clarification on this
As the remarks triggers huge controversy, Bihar’s Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav offered a clarification. He said that Nitish Kumar’s statement was regarding sex education and that it was being misinterpreted. He said that people feel shy to talk about sex education. “What he meant to say was on how to control the population. This should not be taken in a wrong manner,” added Yadav.
