BJD’s Lok Sabha MP Anubhav Mohanty Joins BJP, Praises Modi Government’s Reforms

Anubhav Mohanty, Lok Sabha MP from Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has made a significant move by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. Mohanty cited feeling “suffocated” within BJD and praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly applauding the passage of historic measures like the abolition of triple talaq.

In his resignation letter to BJD leader Naveen Patnaik, Mohanty expressed deep admiration but highlighted undisclosed concerns that led to his decision to leave the party. He emphasized his belief in supporting Modi’s bold steps for the development of India.

Mohanty’s shift to the BJP marks the second instance of a sitting BJD MP, after Bhartruhari Mahtab, joining the saffron party ahead of the upcoming elections. BJP’s national general secretary, Vinod Tawde, welcomed Mohanty’s decision, stating that those interested in India’s development are aligning with the ruling party.

Despite the common perception that artistes may not fit into politics, Mohanty asserted his commitment to contributing to the political landscape. His move underscores the evolving dynamics within Odisha’s political arena and sets the stage for intensified competition in the forthcoming elections.
