Bollywood actress Zareen Khan granted interim bail in fraud case, instructed not to leave the country

Kolkata: Recently in Kolkata, Bollywood actress Zareen Khan stood in the courtroom facing a fraud case that had its roots in a 2018 incident. Considering the circumstances, the court granted her interim bail. The bail conditions were stringent: Khan was not to leave India without prior permission and had to appear before the court for every scheduled hearing.

After hearing Khan’s counsel, the Sealdah court granted her interim bail till December 26 on a personal bond of ₹ 30,000 and prohibited her from leaving the country without obtaining prior permission from Kolkata Police.

The case against Khan was related to a Durga Puja event in Kolkata, where she was contracted to perform. However, due to alleged miscommunication over flight tickets and accommodation, Khan failed to attend the event. This led the event organizers to file a complaint of cheating against the actress and her manager, a serious crime, prompting the Narkeldanga police to file a formal First Information Report (FIR) and later prepare a charge sheet.

A twist in the story was that an arrest warrant was issued against Khan for not appearing in court. However, she eventually presented herself before the judiciary, confirming her identity by removing her mask and providing the last four digits of her Aadhaar card – an Indian identity document.

Considering the evidence and circumstances presented, the court granted interim bail to Khan till December 26 on a personal bond of Rs 30,000. The actress, known for her roles in various Bollywood films, did not comment on the court’s decision when contacted by media representatives.

As the case progresses, the audience—both the court and the public—eagerly wait for the final verdict. This case serves as a reminder of the legal obligations that artists undertake when they agree to perform and the potential consequences of not honoring such commitments.
