Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court has extended the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) custody of Bharat Rashtriya Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha until April 9 in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam case. Kavitha, who was produced before the court at the end of her custody remand, will now remain in judicial custody for 14 days.

BRS Leader K Kavitha’s ED custody Extended till April 9. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja made the decision after the ED did not seek further extension of Kavitha’s custodial interrogation. During the hearing, Kavitha’s advocate, Nitesh Rana, requested interim bail citing her minor son’s exams.

In response, the ED’s counsel opposed the bail application, emphasizing the stringent provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) for both interim and regular bail.

The court is scheduled to hear Kavitha’s interim bail plea on April 1. Meanwhile, the ED informed the court that during her remand, they recorded Kavitha’s statement, interrogated her, and confronted her with various individuals and digital records.

The ED has accused Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, of being a key member of the ‘South Group,’ allegedly involved in paying kickbacks to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for liquor licenses in Delhi.

Maintaining her innocence, Kavitha stated, “This is not a money laundering case but a political laundering case. It is a fabricated and false case. We will come out clean.”

Earlier, the ED had raided the homes of Kavitha’s nephew and sister-in-law. According to reports, the ED may arrest some of her family members.

The court had previously directed that Kavitha’s ED custody be subject to specific conditions, including interrogation in a place with CCTV cameras and preserving the footage.
