CBI registered corruption case against former chief of medical exam body Dr Bipin Batra

New Delhi: The CBI has registered a case against Additional Director of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), Dr Bipin Batra and other officials over allegations of misappropriation of funds and wrongful appointment, officials said. This case has been registered under misappropriation and corruption of Rs 50 crore.

It is alleged that Dr. Batra was illegally appointed as Assistant Controller of Examinations in 2003, when he was unfit for the post. But in the year 2010, he reached the post of Executive Director. After filing an FIR in this case, the Central Investigation Agency Dr. Batra’s places were raided.

The complaint alleged that a substantial portion of records of NBEMS are “surprisingly” missing and “quite clearly have been removed”. The case has been registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 120-B, 201, 409, 420, 468 and 471 and several sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Let me tell you that Before registering the FIR against Batra, the CBI has searched him at several places. Let it be known that in the year 2017 Dr. Batra was removed from the post of executive director of NBEMS on allegations of irregularities. NBEMS is an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Health. After his removal, an inquiry into the matter was ordered. Let us know that in August 2018 Dr. Batra’s services were terminated. A complaint was filed by NBEMS in this case and the investigation report was handed over to CBI last month.

According to CBI’s FIR, during a short period of seven years, Dr. Batra managed to rise to the top post of NBEMS illegally. He was controlling the functioning of the organization despite being incompetent.

Citing the complaint in the FIR, it has been said that a large part of the records of NBEMS is missing and has apparently been deleted. Because of this, CBI has also imposed clauses of disappearance and destruction of evidence in this case. According to the investigation report which is part of the CBI’s FIR, 10 out of 15 charges have been proved against him. 3 charges have been partially proved.
