Chennai: Some schools get bomb threats, students sent home, investigation underway

Chennai: On Thursday, an email containing a bomb threat was sent to some schools in Chennai, after which the police swung into action and reached the schools with the bomb disposal squad. Police teams were swiftly deployed to the affected schools to assess the situation and ensure the safety of everyone on the premises.

Authorities immediately swung into action, coordinating with school administrations to evacuate the premises and conduct thorough searches. Students in these schools were sent back home with their parents, while the police conducted anti-sabotage checks.

The bomb threats, received via anonymous calls, caused panic among students, teachers, and parents. The police have urged people not to panic, and said that action is being taken to identify the culprit who sent the emails.

Law enforcement agencies including bomb detection and disposal squads, canine units and senior police officers rushed to the schools to conduct detailed searches and investigations. Chennai Public School in DAV Gopalapuram and St. Mary’s School, Parish are among the schools that were sent mail containing a bomb threat. As a precaution, the affected schools were cordoned off and traffic was diverted in the surrounding areas.
